The version in the Ubuntu repositories is 5.4.0.42111 -- meaning it was based off of revision 42111. It also has setup scripts designed to migrate and preserve configuration settings for earlier versions of likewise-open and likewise-open5.

The version from the LW pages is 5.4.0.7985, meaning from build 7985, happens to be revision 40443.

The directories and paths are all a little different between these two versions because '42111' was packaged specifically for inclusion in Linux distributions which follow the Linux FHS.

LW-O 5.4.0.7985 from LW pages works 100% better than the version in repositories: 5.4.0.24xxxx.
If I right understand the version numbers, the version in repos is a bit old. There is many modifications in directory names etc.

Although tagged as unstable I have already had great success with Ubuntu 10.04 + Likewise Open 5.4 running in a Virtual test environment (Parallels v5 under OSX Leopard 10.6).

I needed a mobile test platform to demo to clients and was unable to configure a reliable AD Server 2003 re-login using Karmic (9.10) + the "apt-get" version of Likewise from the Ubuntu repository.

Parallels tools won't install under Lucid however that's a relatively small glitch to cope with until the stable version is released in Apri and the problem hopefully resolved. However "tools" aside I am still months ahead with my demo.

10.04 + Likewise Open 5.4 are already shaping up to be the one to watch (and use).
