Likewise Open, built entirely by Likewise engineers, enables enterprises to securely authenticate RHEL users with their domain credentials in mixed operating system environments that include Linux®, Unix®, Mac®, and Windows®. Likewise Open is a free, open source product that is available on the Likewise website. Likewise Enterprise expands on Likewise Open to provide access controls, group policy, auditing, reporting, and event monitoring. Administrators install the Likewise agent on their RHEL systems, and add Likewise plug-ins to their existing Active Directory structure, allowing them to manage their RHEL systems just like their Windows systems. Without modifying the Active Directory schema, administrators can create user IDs and group IDs for their RHEL systems, allowing secure, Kerberos-based access controls. They can also set group policies based on these UIDs and GIDs.

Group Policy Management
Likewise Enterprise group policy works like Windows group policy. When a desktop or server running Red Hat Enterprise Linux has been joined to Active Directory, a Likewise Enterprise group policy agent runs in the background. The agent determines which group policy objects to apply to the system. Likewise Enterprise adds support for configuring RHEL system settings through group policy.
Likewise is the leader in group policy support with thousands of Active Directory group policies—including policies for security, authentication and identification, logon, display, message, logging and auditing, file system, and tasks such as cron jobs.
